[Solution] Shopping Trip – 3 July 2023

The prices in each box are set by a different rule based on the spelling of the item.

In the first box, One or the Other, the number of dollars gives the number of vowels in the body part, and the number of cents gives the number of consonants. Thus EAR is $2.01, since it contains two vowels (EA) and one consonant (R).

For Long Range, the price is simply one dollar for every letter in the name of the country, so PAPUA NEW GUINEA is $14.00.

When in Rome… suggests Roman numerals. Dropping every letter other than M, D, C, L, X, V, or I gives a Roman numeral which has the value in dollars of the given price. BOXING has XI, which gives a value of $11.00.

For Save the Best for Last, the dollar amount is simply equal to the alphabetical position of the final letter of the ingredient. BANANAS ends with S, which is the nineteenth letter of the alphabet, so the price is $19.00.

The four prices are $2.01, $14.00, $11.00, and $19.00. Ignoring the dollar signs and the zero values, the numbers are 2, 1, 14, 11, 19. Converting these to letters, with A=1, B=2, etc., gives the answer BANKS.
