Reading the letters in order gives the phrase SEED FOUND IN PESTO. While other seeds have been used as substitutes, the classic pesto recipe will call for PINE NUTs.
(There is another secret hidden in this puzzle. Observant solvers may have noticed that the letters along the bottom of the grid spell out HI MOM, a nod to the release of this puzzle on the day following Mother’s Day, and in recognition of my own mother, who solves these puzzles.)
