[Solution] Geometry – 12 August 2024

The first step in solving this puzzle is identifying all of the pictured shapes and solids. The number below each one tells the length of the name. In order, they are:

  • TRAPEZOID (6, 5, 2) [TRAPEZIUM in British English]
  • DECAGON (6, 1)
  • ANTIPARALLELOGRAM (4, 17, 11)
  • HEXAGONAL ANTIPRISM (7, 17, 13)
  • PENTAGON (7, 8, 5)
  • HYPERBOLA (8, 7, 6)
  • JESSEN’S ICOSAHEDRON (1, 5)
  • CUBOCTAHEDRON (1, 6)

The final step is to index into each shape or solid by each of the numbers in the second row. This gives the clue ZERO-DIMENSIONAL OBJECT. The only reasonable interpretation of this clue is a POINT.

A few of these solids are quite obscure. Very few shapes include the letter J anywhere in their names. This is made up for by the ability to solve the puzzle while missing anywhere from one to six of the identifications.
